Chairmen of eleven political parties and their candidates in Rivers State have signed a peace pact initiated by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to ensure a violent free rerun legislative election on a yet to be decided date.
Seventeen other political parties including the All Progressive Congress APC shunned the signing of the peace pact.
The leader of INEC designated mediators Reverend Cannon Chris Eke told the gathering that stakeholders are worried over political happenings in rivers State.
The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Rivers State Aniedi Ikoiwak said it is the responsibilities of electorates to decide who governs them and not for politicians to seek power at all cost.
The PDP Chairman in Rivers State FELIX OBUAH said PDP will abide by the peace accord.
On his part, the PDP House of Assembly Candidate for Asari Toru Constituency Two ENEMI GEORGE described the peace move by INEC as commendable.
INEC designated mediators sent to Rivers State by INEC were part of the meeting.
