There is no doubt that the historic shift to a digitally connected world is building a staggering online community where there are new rules on how people gain the vast platform of fame.

The amazing experiences of the likes of Justin Bieber and others, who rose to unimaginable fame and fortune simply by posting videos and pictures of themselves and their unique skills, prove that anyone can become famous in the new order of things.

The truth is that instead of maintaining role models on television and magazines, Generations Y and Z now look to Instagram, Facebook and Twitter in search of their idols.

The Nigerian entertainment industry like the rest of the world is equally catching the fever of this new culture of fame in virtually all its dimensions, music, comedy, modelling, movie and others.

Celebrities are rising to become recognised names, simply by attracting huge followings on their social media accounts and are now setting agenda for public discourse and even influencing, styles and trends.
