Some traders along the Afikpo street market in mile one in Port Harcourt has stages a peaceful protest over the destruction of the market by officials of the Rivers State Ministry of Urban Development.
The traders during the protest alleged that their goods worth millions of naira were destroyed by officials of the ministry.
The chairperson of the roadside Afikpo market Comfort Ikiloju said the market was legally allocated to them by the State Government.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Commissioner for Urban Development Chinyere Igwe confirmed that the task force from the ministry was at the market to clear the area of illegal street trading.
He said no goods were damaged during the exercise as alleged by the traders.
