President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Mr. Honour Sirawoo has challenged players that will be representing Nigeria at the African Junior Tennis Championship qualifier slated for Togo to do the nation proud.
Sirawoo, who gave the advice during a visit to the national trial camp of the players at Tennis Court Centre, Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State tasked them to shun drugs and associated vices in order not to tarnish the image of the country and ruin their future.
Represented by the Ekiti State chapter chairman of the association, Ayodeji Ogunsakin, the number one Sports Journalist charged the selected 12 out of 24 players invited for the trial to see the assignment as a call to service by going in with winning mentality in order to bring glory to their fatherland.
The SWAN President commended the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF) for the programme, just as he advocated for series of programmes to be organised to further expose and improve the players.
He appreciated the Ekiti State Tennis Association chairman, who is also the First Vice President of NTF, Yemi Owoseni, for a successful camping and the state government for providing conducive environment assuring that SWAN will play its role towards the team’s victory.
Captain of the Team, Barakat Oyinlomo commended SWAN for the visit, saying such has further boosted their morale, promising that they will not disappoint sports loving Nigerians.
She added that the training and discipline instilled in them by their coaching crew led by Muhammad Ubale would be put to play at the qualifier and by extension, to the Championship scheduled for March in South Africa
The First Vice President of NTF, Mr. Owoseni commended SWAN President for showing the players love and expressed optimism that with the quality of players selected, the country will come tops.
