Former Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education Rivers State, Dr Richard Ofuru has described the death of late Capt Elechi Amadi as a great loss to the State and Ikwerre ethnic nationality.
Dr Ofuru while paying his tribute to the late literary icon said Capt Elechi Amadi’s inspired the world with his books.
He stated that Capt Elechi was an epitome of academic excellence because of his education background from the then Federal Government College, Umuahia.
The former Permanent Secretary said that the great feat achieved by Capt Elechi Amadi in all every aspect of his life can be attributed to the sound education he received earlier at the government college.
”His death is like the loss of Ken Saro Wiwa and it will take us time to recover from the loss because these are products of quality education. I for one has always talked about quality education and when you the children quality education, you now produce the man.”
”Quality education is synonymous to the development of a man, without quality education, you have not developed a man. And you see the effect of quality education in the product of such persons” he said.
Dr Ofuru also described Capt Elechi Amadi as a gentleman, humble, honest and hardworking fellow who believe in doing the right thing at all times.
