The National Emergency Management Agency NEMA says the prediction by Nigeria Metrological Agency that River Niger may overflow its banks and cause flooding should be taken seriously by communities in the region including Rivers State.
The South South Zonal Coordinator of NEMA Eze James Major during a chat with newsmen called on the people to prepare ahead.
He said over five hundred communities located along the river Niger are at risk of being flooded.
The South South NEMA Boss Major Eze also called on residents and state governments in the South South to embark on cleaning of drainages to avert the impending danger.
You may recall that Nigeria Metrological Agency had on Tuesday predicted that the River Niger will likely overflow again this year.
