The Ijaw Youth Council, IYC is calling on the federal government to fish out the soldiers who allegedly shot and killed a 3SC of Ibadan player Joseph Izu in his village in Okarki in Ahoada West local government area of Rivers State.
IYC spokesman Eric Omare described the killing of the player Joseph Izu and one Oko Suekina as gruesome and condemnable.
The IYC in a statement also condemned as provocative and insensitive defence by the military that the footballer was killed in a cult shrine.
The IYC maintained that the 3SC football star Joseph Izu and the other victim Oko Osuekina have no record of involvement in cult activities.
The IYC said justice can only be done should the soldiers who killed the footballer be made to face the law.
Meanwhile, the chairman caretaker committee of Ahoada West local government area, Jerry Akuru has described the killing of 3SC Player Izu Joseph as an unfortunate incident.
Jerry Akuru who has paid condolence visit to the bereaved family urged calm in the area, especially in Okaki where the late Izu Joseph hailed from.
Speaking on the statement issued by military authorities that the soldiers who shot Izu Joseph were in chase of cultists, the AWELGA chairman charged those who have embraced amnesty in AWELGA to desist from every act of criminality.
