MOSOP says no to resumption of oil production in Ogoni land

The Movement for the Survival of Ogoni people MOSOP has reiterated its earlier position on 7th July, 2017, that it will not allow resumption of oil production in the area without a broad based discussion with the Ogoni people.

This was part of communique released at the End of the Special Ogoni Congress held at the Peace and Freedom Centre, Bori on April 28th, 2018.

MOSOP President Legborsi Pygbara in the communique called on the Federal Government to initiate a broad based discussion with Ogoni people by urgently setting up a proper mechanism for engagement that recognizes Ogoni people as equal partners in finding solutions to the oil induced conflict in the area.

The Congress also welcomed the reconcilliatory efforts being facilitated by different groups in Ogoni and urge every Ogoni son and daughter to work for greater unity and peace in the area.

MOSOP also urge the Hydro Carbon Polution and Remediation Program HYPREP to make public its work programme, implementation plans and budgets through a dedicated portal and website for proper and appropriate information delivaery to enable the community and stakeholders to monitor and follow-up on the implemenation of the UNEP-Report.

MOSOP during the Congress hailed the efforts of HYPREP for its medical outreach programme in Ogoni land and also appealed to them to fully carryout the health study and medical evaluation of every Ogoni person as recommended by the UNEP Report.

On the issue of potable water in Ogoni land, MOSOP called on HYPREP to provide water and vigorous commitment to the implementation of the livelihood restoration programme for the youth and women.

The communique added that Ogoni people was happy with the ceremonial signing of the Ogoni Trust Fund Escrow Agreement on the 27th April, 2018 at the Presidency.
