The Nigeria Association of Goedesy NAG, has called on the Federal Government to implement different research works conducted by different professional bodies in Nigeria.
The President General of NAG Prof. Francis Okeke stated this during the NAG Scientific Conference/General Assembly, with the theme ”Geodesy for Sustainable Environmental Management and National Development” in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Prof Francis Okeke while addressing newsmen, said the non-implementation of researches conducted by experts in Nigeria is responsible for the many environmental challenges in Nigeria especially in the Niger Delta Region.
”NAG is a scienctific organization in the field of Geodesy whose mission is the advancement of Geodesy in Nigeria. It is an association that is aimed at providing a non-partisan and non-profit making, national forum for all in Nigeria concerned with the effective appolication of Geodesy and related sciences to Scholarship and human development” he said.
The National President of Nigeria Association of Geodesy NAG, Prof Francis Okeke. also thanked the Vice Chancellor of Rivers State University, Prof Blessing Didia for making their facilities available for the scientific conference in Port Harcourt.
He added that NAG will continue to proffer solutions to the numerous ecological and environmental challenges facing the country.
In his address, the Surveyor General of Rivers State Surv.Elenwo Noel said the Rivers State Government is poised to provide Geodetic and other other categories of Survey controls that will facilitate meaningful aqcuisition, provision of parameters and date for designs, construction and maintenance of canals, drainages and structured development of some wetlands with proper connenctivity of natural and man-made waterbodies within and through table and wet lands.
Surv. Elenow Joel stated that the scholars present at the conference will do justice to the emerging issues of sustainable environmental management through their findings, inquests and presentations for the overall purposes of National Development.
He also charged the SURCON States Committees on Ethics to ensure that Institutions of higher learning comply with the requirements and conditions of the Surveyors’ Council of Nigeria on the processes of engagement of lecturers in Academic Institutions and accreditation of the survey departments in line with the policies of the National Universities Commission NUC and the National Board of Technical Education NBTE.
Elenwo Joel noted that when the above requirements are implemented it will affect the quality of education and training of prospective Surveyors and emerging specialists in the field of Geodesy and other specialized areas of Surveying.
The Vice Chancellor of Rivers State Univeristy Prof. Blessing Didia, said the institution will provide an enabling environment for the study of Geodesy for prospective surveyors in the school.
Prof Blessing Didia, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof Boma Oruwari also commended the National Association of Geodesy NAG for choosing Rivers State University to host the 2017 scientific conference.
He also called on other professional bodies in the country to partner the institution to improve the quality of learning in the university.
