Police Children School Port Harcourt are the champions of the maiden edition of the National Primary School Cricket championship for south-south states.
Police Children school defeated St.Cyprian’s Primary school by one run to win the title.
The General Manager of Nigeria Cricket Federation NCF Joseph Eshua said the competition of part of the developmental programme of the federation.
Joseph Eshua told our correspondent Ugochukwu Iwuchukwu that the federation wants to get the kids to master the basics of the game at an earlier stage.
He stated that the country will reap the benefit of this tournament in few years to come.
The Head Coach of Rivers State Cricket Association, Tonye Timinadi said the pupils gave good account of themselves during the two-day competition.
He also commended the NCF for initiating the programme and promised that the cricket association will increase the number of schools next year.
The Head Teacher of the Police Children School Tombari Sorghia commended the NCF for organizing the competition and also call on sports authorities to provide adequate sporting facilities in schools across the nation.
Meanwhile, the Acting Director of Sports Council Rivers State, Nathaniel Piaro said the State will continue to provide a conducive environment for sports men and women to strive in the state.
He added that the Sports Council will partner with National Sporting Federations in a bid to take sporting activities to the grassroots.
