The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) goes into Match Day 5 this midweek and Rivers Angels Football Club of Port Harcourt will be home to welcome Akure based, Sunshine Queens at the Yakubu Gowon stadium.

The NWFL champions have so far played three matches this season with two away games where they picked up a point respectively and then the home game against Lagos side FC Robo as Cynthia Aku grabbed a brace in a 3-0 win.

Technical Adviser of the side Edwin Okon, has in the past three matches, rotated his team thereby giving other players the opportunity to show what they can do.

One of Okon’s rotations saw Angels young right back, Ifeoma Ikenokwalu in action for 90 minutes against Abia Angels last week following the absence of experienced full-right back, Ugo Njoku.

As a result of the departure of Angels central defender, Osinachi Ohale to Sweden, Ulunma Jerome got the nod for the season as she paired with Uju Joseph where she did an excellent job, keeping the attacking force of the Umuahia side in check.

The game against Sunshine Queens is definitely going to be a stern test for Okon’s side as the Akure side are no pushovers.

The Wemimo Mathew led side will be hoping to pick a point from Port Harcourt after they were held to a 2-2 draw by visiting Bayelsa Queens in their last game at the Akure Township stadium.

The last time both teams met was in the second stanza of the league last season when the Akure side beat the Jewel of Rivers 2-0, some sort of revenge considering the reverse leg in Port Harcourt ended in the same scoreline.

While Rivers Angels are placed second on the log with 5 points from three matches, 2 points behind leaders FC Robo Queens who have played four games, Sunshine Queens are 5th on 4 points from 3 games.

Chief Coach of the Port Harcourt side, Regina Akaraonye is confident the league champions will pick all three points against Sunshine and go back to the top of the table.

“FC Robo has already played their fourth match while we had our third on Wednesday so we’re definitely winning our game against Sunshine to pick all three points,” Aakaraonye said.

We could have picked three points in Umuahia but the bad playing surface affected our girls so no going back in Port Harcourt because we have a good pitch here,” she added.
