Surveyors vow to tackle flooding in Rivers State

The Nigerian Institution of Surveyors NIS Rivers State says they would proffer solutions to the numerous flooding related issues in the state.

The Chairman of Nigerian Institution of Surveyors NIS Rivers State Chapter Dr.Chukwuzi Ezi said this during a press briefing to mark the 2020 Global Surveyors Day in Port Harcourt.

Dr.Chukwuzi Ezi said surveyors played a crucial role in the built sector.

He asks government at all levels to always engage the services of surveyors in any building project in the state.

The NIS chairman in Rivers State said most of the failed building projects in the state would have been averted if they have involved surveyors from the projects.

Chukwudi Ezi said the surveyors have done so much for the society especially in mapping the planet.

On his part, the Secretary of Nigerian Institution of Surveyors NIS Rivers State Chapter Ajie Emmanuel called for more partnership with government agencies in tackling issues affecting the society.

Ajie Emmanuel during the media parley said partnerships with government and other professional bodies in the built sector would ensure quality projects are delivered to the society.

He said no meaning development can be attained in the country without the inputs of surveyors.         

In his comment, the Public Relations Officer of Surveyors in Rivers State Godwill Pepple said proper mapping of the country will enable the government to combat natural disasters by the authorities.

He said that disasters like the coronavirus epidemic can be track through mapping out the disaster zones.

Godwill Pepple noted that the Ebola crisis of 2014 was fully arrested because the Lagos State Government employed the services of surveyors to track the danger zones and also called on the Rivers State Government to engage the surveyors in tracking the coronavirus pandemic.

According to him, he said that surveying is part of human development as he described God as the first surveyor.

He said that God mapped out water and land during the creation of the world. Godwill Pepple also assured the public that the surveyors will continue to make more impact by introducing technologies to create solutions that will solve the numerous challenges facing humanity
