The President, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Mr Honour Sirawoo has tasked the newly elected executive of the Lagos state chapter of the association to uphold the principles of professionalism in the discharge of their responsibilities.
Sirawoo, who gave the admonition while inaugurating the new exco at the state’s chapter secretariat inside the National Stadium in Lagos, stressed that the association can only become better when all hands are on deck.
While congratulating them on their victories, he urged them to do things that will bring honour and respect to the association, saying only them can stakeholders in the sports sector take the body seriously.
“We must ensure that we do things that will uplift the name of the association and earn the respect of stakeholders. We must prove that we are good administrators who can be given higher responsibilities.
“I want to commend members of SWAN in Lagos for their cooperation and disposition before, during and after the election. We are one big family and even though we may have disagreements, we all have the common purpose of giving our association a better standing,” he stated.
Earlier, a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of SWAN, Mr Alloy Chukwuemeka had joined the chairman of the Electoral Committee, Mr Wale Joseph to supervise the voting and counting process.
While candidates for some other positions were returned unopposed, Debo Oshundun of NAN and Bamidele Boluwaji of Complete Sports contested that of the chairmanship.
Mr Chukwuemeka announced the result with Mr Oshundun polling 79 votes to defeat Mr Boluwaji with 10 votes.
