World Cultural Diversity Day


Today is World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development.

The United Nations General Assembly in 2001 declared every May 21st as the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development .

The day provides people the opportunity to deepen understanding of the values of cultural diversity and to advance the four goals of the UNESCO Convention on the protection and promotion of the diversity of cultural expression.

In Rivers State, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Tonye Briggs Oniyide in her speech to mark the World Culture Diversity Day said Governor Nyesom Wike approved the hosting of the culture day as part of plain to revive the entertainment sector in the state.

The Commissioner said the Rivers State Government has demonstrated unwavering commitment in enabling environment to boost the entertainment industry in the state.
