The Initiative for Youth Empowerment and Welfare Creation has commended the leadership of the Nigerian Ports Authority and Nigeria Shippers Council over their position on the demurrage waiver by the Federal government to cushion the effect of the Coronavirus pandemic in the nation.

The Executive Director of Initiative for Youth Empowerment and Welfare Creation Comrade Abiye George in a statement in Port Harcourt extolled the NPA in her wisdom to buffer the biting effects on Licensed Custom Agents and others doing business at the seaports, due to piling charges of consignment demurrage, noting that at a time like this witty solutions must be applied to balance trade effects to curtail losses at all ends.

He said that the Port and Shipping Operators as the big brother’s in the trade link should cooperate with other stakeholders in amicable compliance to the Federal government directive, so as to help save businesses from crumbling due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

He also called on the NPA to continue in her bid to sustain the economy as the maritime sector remains a critical mainstay for the nation’s economic rebound.

He further thanked the Maritime Workers Union in NPA Port Harcourt for their resolved commitment to fighting the Coronavirus at the ports through the sensitization program for Dockworkers, to safeguard agents and all port users
