Woman of the Year shortlist announced

The shortlist of nominees for the New African Woman Awards 2016 has been announced.

Over 60 women who have made significant contributions in their respective fields will be awarded at an event set for London, United Kingdom next week.

Nigeria is a prominent feature with 17 nominations.

Among those nominated include businesswoman Olajumoke Adenowo, Environment Minister Amina Mohammed, architect Chinwe Ohajuruka bankers Omokehinde Ojomuyide and Arunma Oteh as well as artists Bibi Bakare-Yusuf, Nike Davies-Okundaye and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

Awards will be given across a number of categories including Business; Politics and Public Office, Education; Science, Technology and Innovation, Finance and Banking, Media, Sport, Arts and Culture, Civil Society, Rising Star and New African Woman of the Year.

The inaugural New African Forum and awards will take place on March 10, two days after the International Women’s Day (IWD), held this year under the theme, “Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality.”
