FG summons telecoms operators over exploitative billing, poor services, SMS

The Federal Government has summoned all telecommunications service providers in the country to a meeting over poor quality of services, exploitative billing and unsolicited SMS rendered to customers.

Disclosing this during a personality interview programme in Ibadan, Oyo State station of African Independent Television, the Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu said he would preside over the meeting to be held in Abuja on Tuesday.

The Minister stated that the above mentioned issues and others negatively affecting telecoms customers would be addressed at the meeting.

Reacting to claims that telecom operators bribe government officials with free call cards all year long so as to prevent them from taking necessary actions against these situation, Shittu said it might have happened in the past but not now, “Definitely not under this administration,” he said.
