COVID-19: RSG calls for synergy with corporate bodies

The Secretary to the Rivers State Government Dr. Wenenike Danagogo has called on corporate organizations, Traders’ Associations in Rivers State to support Rivers State government both morally and financially in the fight against the spread of dreaded Coronavirus in the state.


The Secretary to the Rivers State Government, who is also the Chairman of Rivers state Palliative Supplies Committee said this while receiving donations from the Garden City Building Material Dealers Association (GCBMDA) Port Harcourt, at the Palliative Food Center in Port Harcourt, thanking the association for their donations despite the fact that their business area is closed down for one month now.

”We want to commend you for demonstrating your corporate social responsibility. It is for all of us because you don’t know who is going to be the next victim because anybody could be a carrier, and its growth is spontaneous.

We have to thank you, in spite of the fact that your area of business has been closed down for the past one month, you still made efforts to come to make some donations, we thank all of you” he posited.


Dr. Danagogo who was represented by Dr. Fred Kpakol, Rivers State Commissioner for Agriculture, and Secretary Rivers State Palliative Supplies Committee, assured the Garden City Building Material Dealers Association that their message will be conveyed to the Governor.

”Your message will be conveyed to the Governor. we shall also pass on what you have present here onward to the Governor of the state, and we assure you that the state will appreciate your Association and acknowledge what you have donated today. On behalf of the secretary to the government and the Governor of the Barrister E. N. Wike through whom we are working here today, we say thank you very much, it will be judiciously used, thank you very much. We thank God, through the efforts of the Governor this Pandemic has not really affected the state, he has used every means available in the fight against this pandemic” SSG stressed. 

The Secretary to the Government seized the opportunity to appeal to the public to support, and join Governor Wike in the fight against the spread of the virus in the state.”We want to appeal that all should support the Governor, he is not intended to make things difficult for people. He is only intended to fight the virus vigorous. Let us support him to be able to fight this invisible virus” he contended.

Earlier in their address, the Chairman of Garden City Building Material Dealers Association, Comrade Clistus Nnadika said they were encouraged to support the government because of the resilience of the Governor in fighting COVID-19.

“Our association is happy with Chief Barrister E.N.Wike led government the way he has been going about the fight against Coronavirus in the state. Despite the fact that our business area has been locked up for the past one month, we still deemed it expedience to come and identify with the government as our corperate social responsibility, and we here to donate our widows might of100 bags of 10kg Rice and 50 cartons of Noddles to the Rivers state government”

He stressed further that the donation is part of his association’s enlightenment campaign about the dreaded virus through the media.


”Before now my association has been on in house sensitization to our members, and the general public through the media information people that COVID-19 is real they should abide by Rivers state government directives, they should stay safe, we are between living and livelihood, one has to be alive to be he talks about livelihood. What we have done today is part of the enlightenment we have been carrying on”.

Comrade Nnadika called on the federal government and other associations in the state to also support the government in during emergency of this nature.

”We are indeed happy with his Excellency to fight against this deadly virus. We use this opportunity to call on other Associations in the state to come and donate also. Because this is the way we can give back to the government because it has created an enabling environment for our businesses to operate. So in a time like this, we cannot sit at the fence. We also call on the federal government to assist Rivers state, because of its strategic position in the entire economy of the country”.

Speaking also Lady Chinwe Ukaegbu Vice Chairperson of the association said their support for Governor Wike is as a result of his overt love for people of Rivers state 
”My association deemed necessary to part of Rivers state Governor Nysom Wike you know that man is doing very well to protect Rivers people not affected with this COVID-19 that is ravaging the whole nations in the world. Despite the fact, our business area is closed for one month now, because of the efforts Rivers state government is putting in and our love for humanity our association deemed necessary to donate this today”.

Earlier, the Association held a sensitization programme at (Mile 3, along Ikwerre Road by Ada Gorge Road Junction) to create awareness on how to prevent covid-19.

The public Relations Officer of the association Prince Chinaedu Ofoegbu enlightenment their members and the public alike that COVIS-19 is real they should maintain all directives from NCDC and support Rivers state government’s efforts to contain the spread of the virus in the state.
