Nkeki Maina wins Bonny Island Marathon

A Naval Officer, Nkeki Yakubu Maina has won the third edition of Bonny Island Marathon BIM 2020.

Nkeki Maina beat competitions from 300 athletes to claim the coveted two hundred thousand naira prize money.

Nkeki Maina who hails from Bornu State said he was elated to win the marathon race.

He said dedication and hard work contributed to his success during the 20-kilometer race.

The first runner-up of the race Agu Kelechi while speaking to newsmen thanked the organizers of the competition for the opportunity given to them to participate in the marathon.

Agu Kelechi promised to work harder to win the next edition of the race.

He also advised the organizers to learn from the lapses of the 2020 edition of the marathon and improve on it in 2021.

The first runner-up, however, went home with a one hundred and fifty thousand naira prize.

The second runner-up Godspower Wilcox from Bonny local government area of Rivers State came went home with the sum of one hundred thousand naira.

The first woman to cross the finish line Agbawo Modester from Abia State while receiving her fifty thousand naira prize money commended the organizers for putting up such a big competition in Nigeria.

She expressed happiness for picking the prize in her first attempt in a marathon race.

The tournament Director of Bonny Island Marathon Prince Brown while addressing media said he was happy with the outcome of the race despite the few hiccups along the way.

He also commended the athletes for turning out for the marathon and promised to make the next edition bigger and better.

The event also featured music, live performances, and other side attractions.

Our correspondent reports that the theme of the 2020 Bonny Island Marathon is ”Racing for Earth”.
