Eleme Local Government Council commence payment of the bursary to students in higher institutions

Students of Eleme origin can now smile to the bank following the payment of bursary to students in higher institutions by the Eleme Local Government Council.

Our correspondent who monitored the flag-off of the bursary payment at the Eleme Council Secretariat on Tuesday 25th October 2022 reported that one thousand three hundred and ninety students benefitted from the bursary scheme initiated by the Chairman of the Council Obarilormate Ollor.

The Chairman of Eleme Local Government Area Obarilormate Ollor while speaking at the official ceremony of the bursary scheme said the gesture was to ensure quality education and provide the necessary support to students of Eleme origin.

The Chairman of Eleme Local Government Area Obarilormate Ollor further appealed to the beneficiaries to continue to support the policies of his administration in other to sustain the initiative.

”Today is a very special day for all of us especially for the student community because this is the first of its kind not just in Rivers State but in this country. I challenge anybody out of the 774 local governments in Nigeria. We’re going to be giving bursaries to a total of one thousand three hundred and ninety students. We didn’t gather people to play politics, we’re doing this through prudent management of resources. I know that we’re in a campaign period but this scheme did not start today ” he said.

For his part, the Rivers State Commissioner for Finance and Budget Isaac Kamalu commended the council chairman for contributing positively to advance education pursuits of Eleme students.

He said that education remains key to national development.

The Commissioner for Finance in Rivers State further called on the students to reciprocate by taking their studies seriously.

He added that the PDP-led administration will continue to invest in the education sector

Some beneficiaries told our correspondent that the grant will go a long way in their academic pursuit.

They also commended the Chairman of Eleme Local Government Area for the gesture.

Our correspondent reports that 1,390 undergraduates  got N50,000 each while

Ten Masters Degree students received N300,000 each and a handful of Ph.D. students got N500,000 each.
