Teacher Defiles 10-Year-Old Pupil In Lagos

A teacher was on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 arraigned before Chief Magistrate Mr Tajudeen Elias of an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly defiling a 10-year-old pupil after luring her into his apartment.

The accused identified as Ime Akpan, who resides at No. 7, Ogungbenro St., Oke-Ira, Ogba in Ikeja area of the state is facing a two-count charge of defilement and sexual assault.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges but his plea was outrightly rejected by the magistrate who ordered that he be remanded at Kirikiri Prison.

The prosecutor, Insp. Benedict Aigbokhan, told court that the offences were committed on Friday, April 1, 2016 at the residence of the accused.

Aigbokhan said the victim was a student to the accused and that he was living in the same compound with the minor.

He said: “The accused called the girl to his room under the pretext of sending her on an errand and after, pushed her to the bed and defiled her.

`”he accused covered the girl’s mouth so that her cry would not be heard.”

The prosecutor further held that the offences contravened the dictates of Sections 137 and 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The case was further adjourned until Monday, May 16, 2016 for hearing of the teacher’s bail application.
