Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Rivers State chapter has asked women to be bold enough to take leadership positions in society.
The chairperson of the association Comrade Susan Serekara-Nwikhana gave the charge when ‘The Coalition Of Ogoni Women’ (TCOOW) paid a courtesy visit to NAWOJ.
She said taking up leadership positions will make them relevant in society adding that as peaceful beings they are expected to proffer solutions on how best to achieve and sustain peace in the society.
She further charged the Ogoni women to strategically position themselves and be ready to take up leadership positions in Ogoniland especially now that United MOSOP Forum (UMF) is making efforts to put an end to factional MOSOP Presidents.
She expressed the belief that they are capable of making their children turn away from all forms of violence adding that as mothers with special bonds with their children it is very natural that their children will hearken to their voices.
“Most of our youths today, have no one to look unto since, after the death of our past heroes, Late Ken Saro Wiwa and nine others, many of them have chosen the path of violence due to failure of Ogoni leaders to live up to their expectations”, she remarked.
Earlier, the Chairperson of TCOOW, Dr. Patience Osarojiji, disclosed their readiness to partner with NAWOJ in amplifying the voices of women as well as demanding gender inclusion in all levels of governance from the family to community and public places.
